Tree Memories – Damascus, MD

We met a lovely woman at the Damascus Community Fair this summer, who asked us to make a few items from a couple of logs from a tree that had been cut down. This tree was a beautiful maple that was in her yard as she grew up and she thought it’d be nice to have some boxes and a cutting board made from the tree. We had a wonderful time working on this special project! It took about four months to complete it, from milling the boards, drying them, designing & creating the items, wood burning and finishing. One of the surprises of this project was the incredible pattern created by spalting. Spalting is a wood discoloration that happens by fungus that gets into the wood and it stains the grain, which leaves behind a beautiful pattern, especially with a light colored wood like maple!

Here are some pictures to show the beginning of the project, from the tree to the milled boards:

Urbana High School Winter Wonderland

On December 1st, LMnA Designs had the privilege to take part in a wonderful event that raised money for the Urbana High School marching band. As the mom of two band kids, it was a delight to support this wonderful group and I was not surprised at all to find that these kids were kind, helpful and hard workers! The kids dressed up as elves and their first job was to help all of the vendors move everything in from their cars to the gym.

This event had the vendors in the gym, along with Santa! Kids could visit Santa, get a picture taken and decorate a frame for the picture. The other main job for the band elves was to take the children through Santa’s Workshop so that they could buy Christmas presents for their parents and families. It’s a fantastic event for the littles and the parents!

We will definitely be back next year!
